Tribal Uganda Safaris

Queen Elizabeth NP/Ishasha 4 days

Welcome to yet another exciting tour of the country. The goodies in Uganda are endless and Tribal Uganda will take you there. In Uganda, the western block has the most tourist attractions and this is where we find Queen Elizabeth National park. Ishasha is the southern part of Queen Elizabeth where a species of tree climbing lions are found. The lions cling on trees as a hunting tactic (see their prey), they also use trees to relax  in shades after having a nice meal. Just like you can relax on the poolside or beach, these lions hang out on tree branches. This is the only place in Uganda where tree climbing lions exist.
It takes 6 hours to drive to Queen Elizabeth NP just like the same route to the gorillas. There are several crater lakes in this region due to the volcanic activity of the Rwenzori mountains situated just a stone throw away from the park. On the first day to Queen Elizabeth NP, you can do a game drive on the evening of arrival. There are many animals in this park including warthogs, bush bucks, water bucks, elephants, buffalos, lions etc. The game drive takes three to four hours so it is possible to do this after resting on the first evening in the park.
On day two, you can do the boat launch which takes you to Kazinga channel the home of many tribes of birds. If you love bird watching, this is  the place to go. The boat drive takes about three hours wading through crocodiles, hippos and other animals just close on the river banks. After the boat trip, grab quick lunch/ packed lunch and relocate to the southern part of the park (Ishasha) to see the tree climbing lions where you arrive late in the evening at Ishasha wilderness camp or other lodges you are booked to stay (please contact us for more details about accommodation in the park).
Day three is entirely for game viewing and it is possible to see animals at close range near your compound. Take a game drive in the park and see a variety of animals including the tree climbing  lions. These lions are good posers as they stay in the trees even when you drive close. After this experience, you can drive back to the camp and later take a walk to the Congo border which is a small river separating the two countries. Here you can see hippos with dual citizenship. This is because the hippos cross the river back and forth with no visa difficulties and as animals, they are not restricted to this. However, it is not possible to tell which hippo is originally Ugandan or Congolese because they are not marked.
Day four is driving  back to Kampala but we drop you an extra i.e. visiting Kampala markets and surroundings if  we get back early.
Come and dine with the hippos:
