Gorilla tracking (Bwindi Impenetrable forest) 3 days. Uganda is endowed with the mountain Gorillas found in Bwidi impenetrable forest. This alone has put Uganda on the global tourism map and this is an amazing adventure. One tourist on this trip confessed to me that he would have died sad if he never saw the Gorillas.
If you are planning to see the gorillas, please plan months in advance to secure a gorilla permit which is only $500. Gorilla permits sale like hot cakes and they are usually sold out. Get in touch with us and we shall get you the permit at no added cost.
Situated in the South western part of Uganda, Bwindi forest is 10hours drive from the Capital Kampala. It is indeed a tiring trip but an interesting tour. The 10 hours drive has a lot of entertainment for your eyes by the window as there is much to see .
On day one, the journey starts very early in the morning in order to avoid driving in the dark. We have a quick stop at the Equator one and half hours from Kampala then drive on. The countryside is very beautiful with green hills and valleys especially in the western part of the country. We drive through Queen Elizabeth and Ishasha where there is great chance to see animals especially elephants, buffalos, baboons, water bucks etc. On a chanceful day, you could see lions taking a nap on trees as this is the home of tree climbing lions. We arrive late in the park and go to sleep not forgetting waking up early to go track the gorillas. Day two is tracking day. This activity starts with a quick briefing at the wildlife camp at 8am and depending on where your tracking group is, you may start a walk or jump into a jeep which drops you near the tracking area and straight into the forest for the big adventure. It may take as long as you see the gorillas but normally you should have seen them by 1pm if you started at 9am. After tracking, you walk back/drive to the camp and rest.
Later in the evening, there are options to take a forest walk if you still have the legs or you can visit the pygmies in a nearby village. You can also attend a traditional dance concert by the local community children. There are art craft shops where you have a variety of stuff to buy. This place gets chilly at any time of the day so be sure to carry jackets. Apart from that, there is not much activity while in Bwindi but you may decide to conclude the day with a beer.
Day three is entirely driving either back to Kampala or to Lake Bunyonyi (Switzerland of Uganda) where you can take time off to relax, swim, canoe or go fishing.
